1. Greenfield Lake/Dam Wildlife Area

Found on Coonpath Road between State Route 158 and Election House Road, this picturesque wildlife area encompasses the 14-acre Greenfield Lake. Though the park is located a short distance away from the center of town, the peaceful natural scenery will make you feel like you’re a world away. You can find such catches as largemouth bass, bream, catfish, and crappie.

You can make use of your 2023 Ford Bronco Sport‘s versatile hauling capability to bring a kayak or small boat along because Greenfield permits watercraft with up to 10 hp. In addition to fishing, the park offers hunting and a lovely hiking trail that will take visitors along the lake and through a dense forest.

2. Oakthorpe Lake Fishing Area

The similarly scenic Oakthorpe Lake lies within the Thornville area, where you’ll be able to fish for channel catfish, bluegill, carp, green sunfish, and largemouth bass. During the summer, it’s recommended for fishermen to take a small boat in order to reach the best spots since the lake features a large population of water lilies along much of the shoreline. Visitors may use unpowered boats or boats with electric motors.

Boat ramp access is located at the southern end of Grubb Road NE, which you’ll find by heading west on Pleasantville Road NE from State Route 664 and turning onto Indian Run Road NE. Those wishing to fish from the shore will want to head to the dam just off Pleasantville Road.

3. Rush Creek Lake

At about 300 acres, Rush Creek Lake is one of the largest bodies of water near Lancaster, making it an immensely popular spot for avid anglers and boaters. Common catches here include largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel and flathead catfish, crappie, and bluegill. Chances are good that you’ll also encounter waterfowl, cranes, and turtles. Thickly wooded areas and hills along the lake’s shores make the experience even more enjoyable.

Rush Creek’s boat ramps and parking lot are located at the northern end of Thornville Road after turning onto it from US-22. Motorized boats are limited to 10 hp.
